📖 About BIN Lookup & FAQ ▸

What is a BIN / IIN?

A BIN (Bank Identification Number) or IIN (Issuer Identification Number) is the first 6 to 8 digits of any payment card number — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay, JCB, Elo, Hipercard and others. These digits uniquely identify the issuing bank or institution, the card scheme (network), the card type (debit, credit, prepaid), the brand, the currency and the country of issue. BINZ.PRO is a free BIN lookup and IIN checker that returns all of this information instantly, with no login required.

What can BINZ.PRO find?

For every BIN or IIN you look up, BINZ.PRO returns the issuing bank name and city, the issuing country with flag, dial code and language, the card network (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay, JCB, Elo, Hipercard, Maestro, etc.), the card brand, the card type (debit / credit / prepaid), the currency, whether the card passes the Luhn check and whether it is a prepaid product. Use Batch mode to check up to 50 BINs at once and copy the full table to your clipboard.

Common BIN lookup use cases

  • Fraud prevention — verify that the issuing country and bank match the customer's location.
  • Payment routing — detect the card scheme and brand before processing a transaction.
  • Analytics & segmentation — understand which banks and countries your cards come from.
  • Chargeback analysis — group disputes by issuer and region.
  • Developer testing — validate card ranges and generate realistic test BINs.

How BIN lookup works

Every card number is structured by ISO/IEC 7812. The first digit is the Major Industry Identifier (MII); the first 6 (or up to 8) digits form the IIN/BIN. BINZ.PRO matches your BIN against an up-to-date issuer database and returns the registered bank, country, scheme, brand, type and currency. The remaining digits of the card (after the BIN) are the individual account number and a Luhn check digit — BINZ.PRO never needs them, which is why looking up a BIN is safe and does not expose any account data.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a BIN or IIN number?
BIN stands for Bank Identification Number and IIN stands for Issuer Identification Number. Both refer to the first 6 to 8 digits of a payment card number (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) that identify the issuing bank, the card scheme, the card type (debit/credit), the brand and the country of issue.
How does BINZ.PRO BIN lookup work?
Enter the first 6 to 8 digits of the card in the search box and press LOOKUP. BINZ.PRO queries an updated BIN/IIN database and instantly returns the issuing bank, country, card scheme, brand, type, currency, prepaid flag and Luhn validation. Batch mode supports up to 50 BINs at once.
Is BINZ.PRO free? Do I need to log in?
Yes. BINZ.PRO is 100% free and no login, registration or API key is required for lookups on the website. Batch lookups of up to 50 BINs are also free.
Is checking a BIN safe and legal?
Yes. A BIN is only the first 6-8 digits of a card and does not contain any sensitive account information. Looking up a BIN to identify the issuing bank and country is completely legal and is commonly used for fraud prevention, payment routing and analytics.
What is the difference between BIN and IIN?
There is no difference. BIN (Bank Identification Number) and IIN (Issuer Identification Number) are two names for the same thing. The term IIN is technically more accurate since it identifies the issuer, which is not always a bank.
How many BINs can I check at once?
In Single mode you check one BIN at a time. In Batch mode you can paste a list and look up up to 50 BINs at once, then copy all results to your clipboard in tab-separated format for spreadsheets.
